New for 2025!

Braille is coming to your card games

The world of card games and board games is constantly evolving to adapt to an ever-wider and more diverse audience. Today, a real trend is emerging: the creation of card games accessible to visually impaired and blind people.

Thanks to the integration of braille into personalized card games or board games, a new dimension opens up: games that are more accessible, more robust and above all, truly designed for everyone.

These games now allow sighted, visually impaired, and blind people to play together, share the same emotions, and break down the barriers that previously existed around gaming. A silent revolution… but one that is very much present at their fingertips.

A transparent 3D varnish

What is braille varnish?

Braille varnish, or 3D selective varnish, is an embellishment technique that relies on the digital application of a 3D varnish to specific parts of your prints.

Applying a thick, transparent, selective varnish creates the raised areas necessary for reading the Braille alphabet. This cutting-edge technology allows Braille inscriptions to be superimposed onto images, texts, or graphic elements printed in four-color process.

Beyond its durability, braille varnish promises to combine functionality and aesthetics to rediscover the joy of playing for everyone.

An inclusive innovation

Card games, a universal language

Integrating braille into card games promotes inclusion and accessibility. It allows sighted and blind players to share a common experience.

Braille characters bring a new sensory dimension, making the experience even more immersive for all participants.

The application of braille using 3D selective varnish marks a significant step in the evolution of tactile communication. Far more than a simple technological innovation, the integration of braille writing into games paves the way for a more inclusive society, where every card speaks to all the senses, without distinction.

3D varnish, the ultimate braille marking

embossing vs 3d varnish

Integrating braille onto personalized playing cards requires a perfectly mastered technique to guarantee both tactile readability and absolute discretion.

Several types of braille marking exist. Among them are:

braille by embossing

This technique involves creating the relief necessary for braille characters using punches. The pressure forms indentations on one side and small raised bumps on the other side of the support.

For personalized decks of cards, this technique is not ideal. Indeed, the slight dents visible on the back can be perceived by opponents, thus compromising the confidentiality of the cards.

3D selective varnish braille

The most suitable solution is braille produced using 3D selective varnish. This is the technique we use in our braille printing facility.

Here, no hollows are created: the braille is added to the surface using a layer of raised varnish.

Result: perfectly readable touch points, discreet and invisible on the other side of the card.

The only limit is your imagination

To go further

To further enhance accessibility, braille can be combined with large print or XXL-sized cards. At Print Europe, we offer complete customization of your braille card games: from design and format to quantity, packaging, and finishing. You have the freedom to create games that meet your specific needs and preferences.

To make the gaming experience even more immersive and personalized, it is also possible to apply texture effects of varying thicknesses. These textures, which can be subtle or more pronounced, complement the braille by providing additional depth and dimension.
