Give a visual and tactile dimension to your prints
Spot varnish is a finishing technique that relies on the inkjet application of a transparent varnish to specific parts of your prints.
Applied to an uncoated or Soft Touch matte coated substrate, spot varnish creates a highlight, sometimes even a relief, accentuating the key elements of your prints. Unlike conventional varnish applied over the entire surface of a substrate, spot varnish is used in a targeted manner to highlight strategically selected elements such as graphics, patterns or text. Its subtle texture invites touch and stimulates the senses, adding a visual and tactile dimension to your prints.
Simple and refined
3D selective varnish is ideal for multiplying textures and adding a shine and relief effect to certain parts of your visual. This varnish is best used on small surfaces to create a simple and refined volume. For a more pronounced contrast, we recommend using selective varnish on a dark-colored surface.
Expert tip: For even more effect, combine 3D varnish with hot foil stamping.
Express your creativity
Selective varnishing allows for the production of prints with very high added value, both visually and tactilely. It allows you to give your brand a sensory dimension and open the door to emotions and touch.
By playing with the thickness of the 3D varnish, it is also possible to faithfully reproduce texture effects such as the grain of wood, the fur of your favorite animal or the finesse of brushed metal.
By playing on the effects of contrast and texture, transform simple prints into real sensory experiences.

Even more customization
Spot varnish allows for extreme customization. If the back of all your custom playing cards is identical, the spot varnish can be applied uniformly to each one. However, if the front and back of each of your cards are different, you have the freedom to customize each side individually. This will allow you to create unique and captivating visuals.
54 out of 112 cards with varnished titles? It's possible.
112 different backs and varnish on each one? That's possible too.
With spot varnish, the possibilities are endless.
On the calculator, you have the option to add spot varnish to the entire front and/or back. To varnish only a few cards and not all of them, we invite you to calculate an initial quote and then email it to us so we can manually add the option.

About selective varnish
Selective varnish can be applied to an uncoated surface; in this case, no traces of varnish should be present on the cut. If this is not the case, the surface will automatically be covered with a Soft Touch matte film before being partially covered with glossy varnish.
For a refined and sophisticated finish, we recommend limiting the application of the selective varnish to approximately 20% of the total surface area of the surface. Please note that the varnish is transparent and will take on the color of the surface to which it is applied.
Varnish thickness may vary depending on the file, print type, surface, and paper used. For your cards, packaging, and covers, we use a thickness of 29μ.
For the press to accept your print job, it must comply with a maximum format of 330 x 750 mm and 0.45 mm thickness.
